What to expect the first time?

About the treatments

The ayurvedic treatments involve the use of herbal oils, in some therapies its up to quarter gallon. Alot of therapies address ama / toxins i.e eliminating and flushing toxins of the system. It is recommended that you wait at least two hours after a meal prior to receiving any of the treatments. Many of the treatments stimulate your digestion, and it may result in indigestion if you have a full stomach.

In Ayurvedic massage the oil is part of the therapy and is at least as important as the massage itself, if not more so. Oil is Ayurvedic massage's great strength - as it is a complex, warmed and herbal blend designed around the client's constitution often combination of several oils with specific healing and therapeutic properties. After the treatment, the excess oil, is rubbed off with a warm towel but is often told not to take a shower for at least 2 hours to allow the oils to do their work.

Also, after the massage it is better that you have a relaxing day, and not do any stress-related activities. Abhyanga should not be received during menstruation. (If you have an appointment scheduled and you get your menstruation, please make sure you reschedule).

What is Shirodhara?

Pouring of warm oil on the forehead. This therapy quiets both the mind and the senses, allowing your body’s natural healing mechanisms to release stress and impurities from the nervous system. When deep relaxation is achieved, the subtle “imprints” of imbalance or disease are also released.  Shirodhara involves almost 1/4 gallon of oil,  It is recommended that you wait to wash your head until after 2 hours from receiving this treatment.

You should not have this treatment if you have a fever, are "feverish" or may get fever soon; if you have diarrhea, vomiting, productive asthma (with mucus) or any other mucus/ kapha related conditions. If this is the case, please reschedule your appointment.

It is a pleasant and beneficial experience to appreciate the value, fragrance and feel of warm aromatic oils on the skin and a more thorough head and hair massage

Ayurveda Massage And A Regular Massage — What Is The Difference?

The usage of herbal infused oils and  essential oils and focus on specific energy points in the body is the main goal of an Ayurvedic massage. The treatment is much more focused on manipulating your energy fields and freeing emotional burden to bring more healing and relaxation. an Ayurvedic massage therapies are intended to help strengthen and nourish the body’s various systems and to help the body function more optimally as a whole regardless of specific stresses or other stimuli.

Does it actually relieve more stress than a regular massage?

A traditional massage relieves physical stress caused by tension buildup in the muscles; ayurvedic massage takes a more holistic approach, focusing as much more on emotional stress as it does physical.
